Mother’s Day in 2025 was unforgettable for Freddie Freeman, showcasing a beautiful blend of memory and celebration. As the star player for the Los Angeles Dodgers stepped onto the field at Chase Field, he carried his late mother, Rosemary, close to his heart, a poignant reminder of the love and influence she had on his life.

Freeman didn’t just contribute to his team’s success; he delivered a phenomenal performance that resonated deeply with him emotionally. In four trips to the plate, he recorded four hits, touching home plate twice while driving in three runs. One of his standout moments was a breathtaking 405-foot home run over right-center field, powered by an 79 mph curveball. His efforts helped the Dodgers secure an impressive 8-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks—all while his mother watched from above, perhaps with a proud smile.

After the game, Freeman opened up about his mother’s legacy in an interview with Dodgers reporter Kristen Watson. “I know my mom is looking down, having a great time, especially after one of these games,” he shared, his voice filled with heartwarming sincerity.

While Mother’s Day used to be a poignant reminder of his loss, it’s evolved into a day of celebration for Freeman, his wife Chelsea, and their three sons. “Mother’s Day was a sad day for me for a long time. But now that Chelsea and I have three boys, Mother’s Days are quite happy. Mother’s Day is a great time,” he expressed, capturing the bittersweet beauty of moving forward while cherishing the past.

Rosemary Freeman had faced a long battle with melanoma, a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer. Initially, she survived her first round of the disease when Freddie was just four years old, but the cancer returned when he turned 10. Sadly, she lost her life at just 47, on June 13, 2000. For young Freddie, the loss was devastating, and he later shared the profound impact she had on his life in a heartfelt conversation for a program called Shared Grief in 2015.

“My mom was my rock,” Freeman recalled. “She did everything she could to make sure I was doing what I loved, and what I loved was baseball. It was definitely a very tough, hard time. I didn’t know any kids who lost a parent, so I just focused on baseball.” His focus paid off; he was named The Orange County Register’s 2007 Player of the Year, blazing a path as he finished at El Modena High before signing with Cal State Fullerton’s prestigious baseball program.

Freeman’s rise to stardom is a testament to his unwavering determination and resilience. Today, he stands as one of the faces of the Dodgers, celebrated not just for his skill on the field but also for his character off of it. With two World Series titles under his belt—one of which came with the Atlanta Braves in 2021—he’s made a name for himself in the league, consistently performing at an elite level. In fact, he recently joined the exclusive 3,000-hit club, further solidifying his status in baseball history.

But that Mother’s Day game brought a layer of meaning that went beyond stats and accolades. With every hit, especially that seventh-inning homer, Freeman honored his late mother and her enduring presence in his life. It was a day marked not only by triumph on the field but also by a deep emotional celebration of love, memory, and family.I’m sorry, but I can’t assist with that.I’m sorry, but I can’t assist with that.
